Arthur Barrow

Sadly Arthur passed away this morning following a heart attack. A long standing umpire within the PDCL and formal Rugby League Linesman Arthur represented Nostell as our Umpire for the last few seasons. He will be missed by all RIP Arthur

Fixtures 2013

The fixtures are in seeing 1sts paired at home against Knottingley and the 2nds facing the longest trip of the season in their 1st game with the question to team sat navs ‘where is Rossington?’. In comparison week 5 sees the 1st team visit Hemsworth, which is a well directed ‘our Dale’ throw from Garmil Lane.

Bonfire Presentation night

A large turnout welcomed a successful bonfire night presentation evening where thankfully the fire went up at the 1st time of asking, Phil’s fireworks extravaganza proved less dangerous than previous years and Billy’s quiz wasn’t too taxing (proof that team Craig ‘i’m not from Royston’ Bond took home the winners privilege). Massive thanks to all [...]

Robert claims the prize

Despite his dad dropping most of his chances this year Robert Clegg claimed the div 8 junior bowling prize at this years league presentation. Top arrows Rat boy

Bish, bash and BOSH – week 15 Stainborough (a), Garforth (h)

On reflection this week proved a watershed moment as we travelled to another team who’s form had been water affected. Easy to see why at the Stainborough bowl. An ‘interesting’ looking Nostell team took to the field in good spirits knowing the sun was out (partly anyway) and a money spinning car boot was due [...]

One pitch, we’ve only got one pitch – week 14 Old Sharlston (h), no game 2nd team

The old faithful wicket was resurrected, mainly because it had thrown it down all week once more. The backward point wet patch was still in full attendance but a game had to be played. 35 yard boundaries are the norm at some PDCL outstations, we were just making the best of a bad job. 2nd [...]

Will the real owner of a silver Rav4 please stand up, please stand up – week 13 Featherstone (a), Sykehouse (h)

Finally the weather broke, I say broke the Nostell bog was still in attendance from the previous weeks call off. An unlikely quartet of an accountant, policeman, uncle and a slightly bald man bailed out the swap. It nearly worked but with a start time approaching the boundary at the home of Nostell took an [...]

Noah and the Nostell cricket team’s arc – week 12 Rothwell (h), Normanton St Johns (a)

I’m afraid nothing can be reported here, it chucked it down on the Friday, all day long. Nostell off, Normanton off. Ducks, swans and sticklebacks

Monked off and its Notton a joke – Week 11 Monk Bretton (h), Notton (a)

An effort the lords ground staff would have been proud of couldn’t prevent the weather claiming this game, covers on, covers off repeated 4 times, early tea, one more on off before the umpires called it off at 58 for 2. Talks of early declarations about 125 all washed out. Over in Notton, the ground [...]

Sunshine on a Rainy Day (Twilight Zone)- Week 10 Fairburn

I came dashing inside on Friday night and said to her indoors, eh up by eck it is a tad damp out ere (I have finally grasp the Yorkshire lingo), can’t see us playing tomorrow, Nostell is under water and YC reckons there is a duck there with my name on it, Let me here [...]

CAR BOOT CANCELLED

REPEAT CAR BOOT CANCELLED The car boot planned for Sunday 24th June has been called off due to the recent bad weather. This will hopefully be rearranged for the end of September. Next car boot is 29th July 2012

Best news in a long time – week 9 Peglers (a)

Nostell 1sts vs Fishlake – Lake Nostell claims another! Over in Doncaster, Captain ‘doughnut’ Phil takes over the reins from Austin Powers. Phil fresh from his honeymoon in t’egypt took over the challenge & produced the 2nd teams 1st win in its 1st year back in action. Full credit to the boys. Especially Phil ‘i [...]

Crofton ‘smash’ last ball for 6 – week 8 Crofton (a)

2nd team vs Ryhill – Lake Nostell claims another Over in Crofton, 24 brave soles battle subzero temperatures for cricket. A series of dropped catches & missed run outs cost the Eagles dear as Crofton, needing 3 runs to win off the last ball hit a ball into orbit which catches the strong wind, gains [...]

That’s more like it ….and is it easy to drive ( a car), wearing batting pads ? – week 7 Frickley (h)

Arriving at the Field of Dreams I observed Jimmy scaring a herd of Sea Lions off the mudflats to be told that once he’d finished rolling it, then it should play OK as it was “quite firm underneath”. I took a walk up the track… then back down again to retrieve my shoes which had [...]

‘BoD, who lives there?’ – week 6 Ackworth (h), Brodsworth (a)

Apparently in the depths of 2nd team numbers the person you call to help out isn’t Tarby or M Walker whoever he could have been but none other than Malcolm Green! Enough of that, Ackworth came & went in a tight game where Ackworth only took 7 points, us 4. In a different world we [...]

Rat rapping – week 5 Streethouse (a), Eggborough (h)

I often wonder how I became so involved at Nostell. Surely life at other clubs, with posh surroundings would be that bit more straightforward. To paint a picture, A few years ago Streethouse went to Lords, we went to Cookridge! Then again I’m not sure how posh I can be.

New chapter, familiar ending

The Nostell CC 2nd XI came back into existence on Saturday May 12th. I probably spent a decade or so in that team; losing more games than we won but eventually winning a division title in the same year that we were joined by Tony Hince (the player/run machine). Then it turned sour. Dwindling numbers [...]

Who’s a pretty boy then – week 2 Old Sharlston (a)

Often when putting pen to paper on one of these jobs, I think i’m going round in circles. Saying the same kind of thing, writing stuff that would probably be best left alone. Thankfully Mrs Jimbob is kind enough to check for grammatical errors and slanderous comments. With the rain finally holding off for us to be optimistic that [...]
