This week we welcomed Fairburn to Garmill Lane, The Fairies (as they are affectionately known) must have been looking forward to playing on a decent wicket after having been skittled for 37 on their home deck the week prior. I had a little look on the Fairy website to read last week’s match report to [...]
We travelled to the wind swept Crofton CC on Saturday to face a side that had been placed in the top four of the league for the past few years. We were missing the VC JimBob who was off chaving it up in Benidorm on a “stag do”. I personally think the Rowett’s are Nostell’s [...]
Friday Night- After having put the latest addition to the Garrick family to bed I decided to have a quick look on Facebook to see how the Nostell lads were preparing for the next days relegation match with Hooton Pagnell (who will now be referred to as Hoots). I noted two things: Uncle Ken was [...]

The majority of the team managed to make the long journey across West Yorkshire to play against our old foe’s from Hatfield Town (Minus my mate black beard),although we were missing Simon who was still sunning it in Spain and Nic who was off chasing the Loch Ness Monster like the FT he is!,
As the headline states Nostell are the family friendly club (just ask the Reynolds clan!) an welcome all two legged and four legged members to Garmill Lane, unlike our close neighbour’s South Kirkby when visitors travel to their ground. They had obviously heard about Nostell’s fine reputation as hosts and bought many supporters with them [...]
I think we should bowl first quipped Wise Old Uncle Ken after having surveyed the slopping Stainborough pitch, “Bugger that” was the quick reply from the Former Captain, having just lost a few more hairs from his already balding scalp. “Do you not remember the last two weeks old man?” .
With the 2010 season just around the corner and the “Captain” being installed as ” The Captain” for the forthcoming year I would like to take the oppertunity to thank Richie H for his support and understanding while wishing all the Nostell team the best of luck for the season …(with the exception of Mal, [...]
With the mid week season nearly upon us remember the words of the “Captain”, “Taking the risk is not the risk”, …..”it’s “not” taking the risk that’s “the” true risk”. Hail, Hail, “The Captain”
Nostell St Oswalds vs Conisbrough 9th May 2009 Match Gallery Preamble; Pre-Match Preparation; “I’m getting quite upset” said the Young Captain, “Is it because your bald” asked the inquisitive Martha (the only person in attendance) “No,No not because of that, but I’m the only one here and there’s the mound to cut, the square and [...]
To imitate is one thing, but “to be” is another, with the new mid-week season nearly upon us please remember the words of the “Chocolate Greenhouse” (circa 1986)….. “Not very long ago, in a place quite near, in a fridge in a jelly mould I lived for about a year” ! Hail Hail, “The Captain”
Mid Week League; Game 8; Ryhill vs Nostell Captain’s Log; 22nd July, 2008. The final game of the mid-week season saw Nostell visit their neighbours Ryhill in search of a victory that would at least secure second spot in the league, (joint top if other results went Nostell’s way). Having worked out his game plan [...]
Mid Week League; Week 8; Nostell vs Rothwell Captain’s Log; 8th July, 2008 Preamble; Not since Constance Kent eluded the grasp of the brilliant Jack Whicher back in 1860 has the plot been harder to unravel. After a week of deep thought, contemplation and a skin irritation the plan to overthrow Rothwell had still not [...]
Mid Week League; Game 5 Captains Log; 24th June 2008 Preamble; What a gloomy morning thought the “Captain”, (while dialing his usual dating agency..”Ask for Veronica Inc” ) another match day under threat due to weather, at that moment the ringing was interupted and “Slick” (busy at work and recognising the number) answered the phone. [...]
Mid-Week League; Game 4 Captain’s Log, 9th June, 2009 The Preamble; Travelling back from London “The Captain” was disturbed from his copy of “The Monmartre Investigaion” (by Claude Iznar), by the sound of his mobile ringing. “Hello, this is Michael” said the voice on the line, without hesitation “The Captain” replied defensively “That’s impossible, it [...]

Captain’s Log 20th May, 2008 Mid Week League Well there we were at the outset of a journey that would turn batters into bowlers, bowlers into wicket keepers and the Captain into the Captain, while providing continuity and new options for the Nostell team that would prove valuable during the regular season. The first thing [...]
Following a lengthy and intense discussion in which a batsman of note promoted the theory that a bad ball becomes a good ball when bowled on a indifferent wicket, I feel compelled to write.
