My thumb hurts - Week 10 Brodsworth (h)

Nostell St Oswalds vs Brodsworth Main 20th June 2009 Match Gallery

The day before the game

brodsworth.JPGDeep in ‘thought’ at work, the young captain decided a quick call to the captain was in order. ‘What’s the weather forecast overnight?, I might put the cover on, should only take 10 minutes!’ declared the captain.

Several hours later after a glance at the ever ‘reliable’ bbc forecast still unsure of the captains intentions the young captain suggested the cover be left off, if only to save the captains energy.

‘Too late, it only took an hour & half. I’ve left Kath, Martha, Alice and the large patio table on a corner each, they should be ok overnight’ came back the text.

To the game

With the covers and 300 bricks removed, Brodsworth Main were the days visitors in what was a 1st vs 2nd clash in the league. The opposition skipper Stuart Cutmore won the toss and declared his intentions to bat. Slick Lee took the 1st ball knocking over the opening batsman’s stumps with it! The fellow opener soon followed in similar fashion clean bowled by slick. This brought to the crease the limp wristed Tagg and Jon Robinson who steadied the Brodsworth ship with an excellent partnership of 97 before i managed to get a cutter through Tagg’s gate. Robinson finishing on 77.  A couple of survived caught behinds not given during the innings and a contribution of 30 from young batsman Drury Brodsworth closed on 181 for 6, a total both teams were happy enough with given the strong wind into the face of the horse field end bowlers and the stodgy nature of the batting surface.

brodsworthlee.JPGUnfortunately for the mighty Nostell it wasn’t to be. Only Slick lee showed how it should be done hitting the innings of the match in vain as none of us fellow Nostell ‘batsmen’ reached double figures. A poor show in the circumstances of Lee’s one man show at the other end. Brodsworth tweaker Gary Barnes picking up 4 for 32 in a tight spell. So our 1st defeat of the season but we are still sat at the top of the league following our excellent start to our 1st season in PDCL with it all to play for. Starting with a trip to Thurnscoe next week after todays cup tie vs Whitley Bridge from the 2nd division.
