The Skipper & The King- Week 15 Conisborough 2 (a)

Conisborough vs Nostell St Oswalds 25th July 2009 Match Gallery

conisrich.JPGA Nostell side travelled down the A1 (well most did!) to face Conisborough minus a Rowett in the side for the first time in many, many years. With Leroy making the step up from all round club saviour to all round club saviour and captain he promptly won the toss.

Rich opened his account with a 6 to the short boundary before he was bowled the next ball. The quiff joined the king at the crease and they put on 90 before Lee was well caught for 49. Jason joined the king and both were looking settled before a straight drive from the king was deflected onto the stumps to have me short of my crease. Richie B strode to the wicket and made a very useful 22 runs before he was caught trying to up the run rate. Mal came and hit a 4 and then got himself out in the usual fashion,  Dale, the captain and Uncle Ken all came and went, but it was the king who held it together for a well made 53 to get Nostell through to 170 for 9 at the close.

conisstevet.JPGAfter what can only be described as on of the best tea’s seen on the cricketing circuit (thank you to the ladies in the tea rooms) Nostell took to the field hoping to knock the visitors over quickish so Steve T could get off to met his latest date, whoever he/she was. Uncle Ken took the first over the the openers stated their intentions when they hit the uncle over his grey head several times for 6. The uncle got the break through however when he had one of the openers out caught by one the the pretty boy Ritchie’s. Leroy got in on the act shorty after when he had the other dangerous opener out LBW in the next over. The lad however did not agree with the umpires decision and his reaction will no doubt cost him a spell on the side lines for the coming weeks. Uncle Ken picked up a couple more wickets whilst leaking runs, but it was Leroy who controlled the innings with a fiery spell of swing bowling and he picked up four more wickets to add to his 50 odd for the season thus far. Dale came on and picked up two wickets for just one run and Ritch H picked up one for himself to knock Coinsborough over for 72. A very workman like performance from the whole side, and special note to the fielding efforts of Rich B and Father Mal.

So it was another victory and a small step towards the promotion NCC are seeking.

Well done to Wayne for his valuable knock and to the Quiff for his captaincy and general all round effort.

Lets keep the roll on this week when we meet the in form Normanton at Garmill Lane.
